Package Theft - What to do if your package is stolen

We’re sorry this happened. Package theft is frustrating and can feel violating. Here’s what to do and what LMCH can do to help.

If it’s happening right now (in progress)

  • Call 911.
  • Do not confront the person.

If you discover the theft after the fact

  1. Check your delivery details
Look for delivery photos, timestamps, or notes from the courier (e.g., Canada Post, Amazon, Purolator).
  2. Ask neighbours
Sometimes packages are picked up for safekeeping or delivered to the wrong unit.
  3. Report it to Police (recommended)
File a non‑emergency report and keep the occurrence/case number. Many retailers require a police report for refunds or replacements. Make a report online by clicking here.
  4. Tell LMCH
Submit our Tenant Report Form. We use your details to check building cameras (if available) and to support police and security follow‑up.

Tenant Report Form

If you cannot use the online form, you can:

  • Email: care [at] lmch.ca (care[at]lmch[dot]ca)
  • Phone: 519‑434‑2765

Please include:

  • Your name, unit number, building address
  • Date and time you believe the package arrived and/or was taken
  • Courier/service (e.g., Amazon, Uber Eats, SkipTheDishes)
  • What was taken and the approximate value
  • Any delivery photos or order screenshots
  • Your police report number (if you have one)

What LMCH will do

  • Log and track your report so we can identify patterns and hotspots in our communities.
  • Review CCTV footage (where available) for the relevant time window.
Note: not all areas have cameras, and cameras may not capture every angle.
  • Share footage with police when they request it as part of an investigation.

What LMCH cannot do

  • We cannot guarantee recovery of stolen items.
  • We cannot release or post CCTV video publicly.
  • We cannot replace or reimburse stolen packages. (Check retailer/courier policies—many offer replacements.)

Tips to reduce package theft

  • Use secure delivery options (deliver to a trusted friend or workplace if possible).
  • Track deliveries and pick up packages as soon as you can.
  • Add delivery notes (e.g., “Leave with office/desk,” “Do not leave unattended.”
  • Avoid labels that show high‑value contents.
  • Keep entrance doors closed and do not let unknown persons tailgate into the building.
