March 2024 marked a pivotal moment for London & Middlesex Community Housing as ground was broken for Reimagine Southdale Phase One, a project set to redefine community housing in the London and Middlesex region. Made possible by an investment from the City of London, this initiative aims to address the need for accessible, affordable housing, marking the first new community housing development in 50 years.
A New Era of Housing
Reimagine Southdale represents more than just new buildings, it represents a commitment to creating safe, comfortable homes designed for accessibility and affordability. These units will be purpose built, catering to singles, families, and couples alike, ensuring that tenants will have not just a place to live but a place they can truly call home.
The project's unveiling drew LMCH staff and tenants, City Councillors, London Police Service, community members, as well as Mayor Josh Morgan and Mayor of Strathroy-Caradoc Colin Grantham who shared some words of inspiration. Afterwards, there was a celebratory reception, where attendees enjoyed snacks and refreshments while browsing floor plans and mingling.
Building Communities, Fostering Hope
Mayor Josh Morgan summarized the spirit of the occasion, emphasizing that Reimagine Southdale is more than a construction project—it's an opportunity for community development and change. "By investing in projects like this," Mayor Morgan stated, "we're not just building structures; we're building communities, fostering stability, and nurturing hope for a brighter tomorrow for all who call London home.”
As construction progresses and the vision of Reimagine Southdale takes shape, it promises to set a new standard for community housing in London and Middlesex County. With a focus on accessibility, affordability, and community integration, Reimagine Southdale stands as a testament to what can be achieved through collaborative effort.
Join Us on the Journey
July 2024 update: Today, Phase One is moving quickly with five out of six floors constructed. The scope of the project spans beyond the new building, also including improvements to the rest of the site, with existing Southdale townhouses getting new siding, sidewalks, and more. Looking ahead, Phase Two of the project has been approved and plans are underway to get started on the second building, which will be comprised of more purpose-built, accessible units for singles, families, and couples.
Together, we are shaping a future where everyone has access to safe, affordable housing—a future where communities thrive and individuals flourish. This is more than a groundbreaking; it's a promise of a brighter tomorrow.
