Step Up To The Plate: Rookie League 2024

This summer, LMCH proudly continued its tradition of nurturing young talent by partnering with London Police (LPS) for the 31st year of Rookie League. This program offers youth aged 8-11 from LMCH family sites a chance to experience the joys of baseball in a supportive, beginner-friendly league. Over six weeks in July and August, kids embraced the fundamentals of the game while also learning crucial life skills such as teamwork, handling peer pressure, and addressing bullying.

One of the highlights of this season was the enthusiastic involvement of police officers who volunteered as coaches for four teams, each of which played twice a week. Their dedication went beyond teaching baseball and their mentorship contributed to the growth of LMCH youth both on and off the field.

Throughout the season, a passion for baseball was evident in all four teams: The Alien Macaronis (Allan Rush and Marconi), The LimberWins (Limberlost), BURON (Boullee and Huron), and The Southpaws (Southdale). Each game was a testament to the commitment of each player, culminating in a championship showdown between the LimberWins and the Alien Macaronis. The match was intense, with the score remaining close for most of the game. In the end, the LimberWins were victorious, and their celebration was a joyful reminder of the season’s success.

The success of Rookie League 2024 was made possible by the hard work of the Community Development team, the involvement of LPS, and the generosity of our sponsors: the London Majors, Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, Joe Kool's, Harvey's, Subway, Rosie's Streetery, and No No Nanette's. Their contributions ensured that every child had the opportunity to shine.
